Architects in Oxford take a look back at our 2019 projects
10 Dec '19
2019 has been another busy year for our architects in Oxford and as the year draws to a close, we take a look back at some of the exciting architectural designs they have been working on.
The year began with completing the internal renovations to a Grade II listed building in South Northamptonshire. The clients had approached us as their home, despite being a fine example of Georgian architecture, was not suited to modern family life. Our architects redesigned the ground floor to create a better flow to the building, making the kitchen the heart of the home and allowing the owners the socialising space they required. Despite finishing the internal renovations at the beginning of the year, work continued throughout the spring and summer on a new indoor pool and home gym extension which completed in the early autumn. The new extension blends seamlessly with the old house and is a fine example of modern architecture sitting comfortably alongside traditional. The pool house draws the outside in with sliding glass walls and a feature rooflight and, with extensive modern lighting, it is the perfect swimming environment whatever the season.
Early spring saw work begin on a new beautiful new Cotswold farmhouse. The house is to replace an original farmhouse that had been in the family for decades but burnt down in a devastating fire. The new build is to stand on the footprint of the original but with the addition of a luxurious orangery. Our architects in Oxford spent a long time paying special attention to detail to ensure that, from certain angles, the new build is an exact replica of the original. However, inside, the property will benefit from all the modern conveniences expected in a new build, with large socialising spaces, cosy family areas and a contemporary home cinema. Fantastic progress has already been made to this property and we look forward to showcasing the finished result next year.
During the summer we were thrilled to gain planning permission for two luxurious new homes on a farm. Situated in the Aylesbury Vale, the plot wasn’t within an area of outstanding Natural beauty or a conservation area, allowing us to gain Class Q planning approval, meaning we could convert the existing agriculture buildings without too many planning constraints. The finished design is a stunning piece of contemporary architecture. With five bedrooms, including the master suite, and a stunning internal private courtyard to each house, the project, once completed, will offer elegant and stylish modern living. The build has now begun on-site and we shall keep you updated on progress over the coming months.
Over the past few weeks we have been enjoying watching the finishing touches come into view in our Bloxham extension and renovation. Our clients asked for our full architectural services, allowing us regular access to the site. The kitchen extension has had its roof installed while the games room has been tanked. This is proving to be a hugely rewarding project. Situated within the heart of the village and overlooking the 14th century church it was vital our design would seamlessly blend old and new and as it comes together, we can see that we have succeeded in all areas. With ingenious stepped roofing and sedum finishes, the property is both functional and beautiful.
These are just a handful of projects that have kept us busy over the past year and as always, we are so grateful to our wonderful clients for ensuring every day at William Green Architects is unique and exciting.
