New Residence, Designed by Architects in Oxford, Makes Excellent Progress
4 Sep '18
Our client originally approached our team of architects in Oxford hoping to gain planning permission for a two storey, four-bedroom family home in the heart of Oxford city. The site housed an unoccupied 1960s bungalow which they wanted to demolish and replace with a stylish, architecturally designed residence with all mod-cons.
During the design process, various constraints became evident. Primarily, due to the site’s central location, we had to ensure the house did not overlook the neighbouring properties. We eventually decided on a ‘T’ shape design which guarantees that the residence does not impose on the neighbour’s ‘right for light’ through the utilisation of dropped eaves on the eastern side of the site.
Once the constraints had been overcome we were excited to gain planning. The house is to have a gross internal area of 160m2 with a luxurious kitchen and utility room on the ground floor, alongside dining and living rooms, a study and cloakroom. A centrally located staircase leads to the four upstairs bedrooms, two of which are ensuite, and a family bathroom. Following planning approval, work soon began on site.
Rendering and plastering
We are delighted that the project is now approaching the final stages of the build. In the last few weeks the Aquapanel render boards have been installed to the external face of the timber frame structure, ready for rendering. The windows and doors are also all installed, making the home watertight. First fix electrics and plumbing have begun, as has the joinery, which will be ready for internal plastering following installation of the underfloor heating and ground floor screed.
Beautiful architectural design
As the build finalises we are looking forward to the finishing touches coming together. The high-quality materials such as Western Red Cedar cladding, dark grey PPC aluminium doors, windows and rain water goods, and the lime stone white rendering will make this property stand out as a truly beautiful example of architectural design.
