Oxford architects complete Cotswold farmhouse project
28 Jul '20
Situated within the idyllic Cotswolds, our clients owned a stunning period farmhouse, surrounded by picturesque villages and rolling countryside; it was very much the dream country home. Tragedy, however, struck the family in 2017 when the home was gutted by a fire and our Oxford architects were called in to recreate the property on the existing footprint. Our plans were created with careful consideration, being immensely important to remain sympathetic to the original farmhouse, whilst bringing a modern feel to the internal layout. The final design provided the perfect blend of a traditional Cotswold-style farmhouse with all the modern conveniences expected in a luxurious architecturally-designed space.
Planning was gained and the project began on-site in the spring of 2019. Working alongside structural engineers Solid Structures, progress quickly went from strength to strength. Whilst many building projects were held up throughout lockdown, the fantastic team of builders at R.C Spencer continued to work hard on the build, be it socially distanced, to ensure it completed on time.
We are thrilled to announce that our clients have now moved back into their beautiful home and are overwhelmed with the results. From the road, the property looks identical to the original, with no attention to detail spared. For example, the original window frames that survived the fire were surveyed to ensure the recreated versions matched perfectly. Furthermore, the rear of the property has now been extended with a stunning glazed orangery. Internally the space is more dynamic, with large, open plan socialising areas as well as cosy snugs with state of the art cinema screens, boot rooms and the all-important craft room!
The luxurious finished result could not have been achieved without the help of the fantastic on-site contractors, including Interior Designer Lauren Gilberthorpe, who has gone out of her way to provide the most stunning fixtures and fittings; from clay bath tubs to hidden bookcase doors, no small detail has been missed. Teksclusive, the home automation team, has provided an integrated system to create a smarter home - from lighting, audio and visual, to the main security and heating systems - all adjustable at a click of a button or control pad. The clients can enjoy complete flexibility while relaxing at home and peace of mind while away. Assent has overseen the building control whilst Landscape Designer Susan Dunstall has created a tranquil garden retreat, also due for completion soon.
These are just a handful of the highly professional contractors that have ensured the complete success of this stunning project.
