A family home and studio in Bloxham

A beautifully remodelled family home and extension with sedum roof

Client brief
Our client, based in Bloxham in Oxfordshire, approached our team to transform their property and outbuildings into a beautiful home that would be perfect for modern family life well into the next 100 years. They were seeking to:

  • Augment the driveway and create a two-bay garage
  • Remodel and refresh the existing house
  • Create an extension that links the house to a new kitchen space
  • Remodel the existing terrace and workshop to create a garden studio

The process
Bloxham is a charming Oxfordshire village and this property is close to and has wonderful views of the Grade I listed church, notable for its 14th-century tower and spire, the highest in Oxfordshire. Naturally protective of this view, the planning officers are understandably strict, yet our designs were approved first time without any issues.

We created a unique stepped roof on the extension to reduce the perceived mass, blending in seamlessly with the stepped roofs of the surrounding properties. Also complementing the natural beauty of the area is a sedum roof which will present the owners with a wonderful blanket of wild flowers and grasses.

The new garden studio with floor to ceiling glass on three sides integrates into the natural slope of the garden and features a large terraced area, making it a perfect hideaway in every season.

The galley kitchen has been designed to make a wonderfully functional space with large amounts of storage within the cooler enclosed areas of the existing property. This then leads into the new extension that will be filled with light and high ceilings, perfect for entertaining.

The overall scheme balances the traditional with the modern in a way that complements and defines the existing building without dominating or overshadowing the property or surrounding area.

The result
We are delighted with the finished property and pleased that our clients are as thrilled as we are. The interior design is now complete and gives the final touches to ensure the perfect blend of both cosy country cottage and modern family house. We wish them many happy years in their perfect home.
