A unique Oxfordshire home
A traditional and local style in a conservation area
Our clients asked us to transform a partially wooded and lawned area of land into a unique and beautiful home. Careful consideration regarding the surroundings was required due to the plot being situated within the grounds of Grade II listed buildings.
By working closely with Cherwell District Council’s conservation department, we designed the property to sit sympathetically within the conservation area with a traditional and local style. High-quality natural materials were chosen for an understated exterior and a more modern, striking interior. The plot is surrounded by mature trees and we wanted to capture the axial views throughout the house, providing a beautiful and changing perspective as the seasons change.
A double story shaft runs through the property as the main corridor, providing the principal axial view. The double-height entrance hall is filled with dappled light, connecting those inside the home with the landscape outside.
Inside the property is an excellent balance of large entertaining spaces and family rooms, and a formal dining room and sitting room have been designed to work together as an open space if required. A family room and kitchen diner sit below the master suite and overlook the gardens. The materials used include a traditional coursed rubble stone for the formal areas, and the family areas display an oak structure that will weather into place and become silver in colour.
Every available space has been used including the attic and basement areas to house more bedrooms. The latest energy-saving technologies have been installed, making the home easy, and efficient to maintain, and upgradable in the future.
