On the drawing board

We currently have an exciting mix of projects on the drawing board. Amongst them are plans for the extension and remodelling of a townhouse in Fulham to open-up the space and reimagine the layout. We are also working on a feasibility study to develop a country estate house into a delightful family home. This will include a new wing, removing the existing indoor swimming pool and creating interesting volume, light-filled spaces for a large kitchen diner, and family living areas, all with close visual and physical connections to the beautiful grounds and far-reaching views of the gallops.

At WGA, we work hard to present our projects in a manner that conveys our design ideas. We enjoy presenting the best carefully crafted drawings, renders and 3Ds of our work. The above image showcases one of our recent creative designs, an iteration of which successfully achieved both listed building and planning consent for a full house refurbishment, a new kitchen dining wing with a basement and proposed hard and soft landscaping scheme to this listed house.

On-site

Two of our projects are in the process of appointing contractors and are to start on the site very shortly.

Several other projects are making great progress, including the construction of a large 4-bedroom house in a West Northamptonshire village. The ground floor is currently taking shape revealing the layouts nicely.

A couple of projects have reached their thrilling completion stage and have now been professionally photographed, including the image above showcasing of the Home Lodge project. Home Lodge was a farmhouse with outbuildings which our clients purchased with a view to turning it into their bespoke home. They had a strong vision for the project and were very conscious of the original rustic charm of the period property, which they wished to keep and express as a key feature of the overall design. We were delighted to meet clients with such a vision for their home, and we set to work creating a bespoke home for them from the original house.

Project Showcase - Round Hill

This family house in a charming Oxfordshire village didn’t really work as a modern family home, or celebrate its lovely setting on a hillside, overlooking rooftops. Our clients had a list of requirements but were also open to our interpretation of what they needed. As you walk around the site, you realise its complexity. There are different levels and several access points, outbuildings and neighbouring properties. We worked closely with our clients on the details of a scheme to increase the size of the house and maximise its potential. The result is a subtly modern remodelling and extension of a classic Oxfordshire village house, celebrating its unique location.

Thoughts - Settings and Landscapes

Projects at William Green Architects relate to people and place. Places have physical attributes that require understanding. These attributes can be utilised and manipulated by design. The extent of understanding and selection of priorities will influence building design in a manner that enhances and connects the building to its place.

Settings and Landscapes are fundamental elements that need to be considered separately and together, similar but not the same. Setting is a choice, a design decision that has reason and purpose. The result of considered thought that connects peoples ‘needs’ and capitalises on the inherent qualities of place.
