City Living

— 13 May 2025

City living takes many shapes and William Green Architects aims to be involved in a greater variety of commercial and residential projects as time passes. Currently we have experience in transforming town houses, apartments and flats in London, Oxford, Bath, and Cheltenham. Amongst this sample there is a broad range of challenges that we overcame and potential that we delivered upon. The beauty of in-town architecture lies in the high demand for space, which creates a dynamic mix of opportunity and complexity.

William Green Architects enjoys designing and remodelling city homes that maximise the use of space, taking the time to understand what that means to a project and how it influences the way our clients live in their homes.

We are keen on the adventurous and can identify the beauty amongst conflicting environments. We are well practiced with the standard but always seek to elevate this above the normal expectations to deliver the delightful.

The intrigue of what lies behind a front door is an inviting notion, which sets the stage for design to take a leading role. We are always seeking to elevate the ordinary and create unique solutions where each corner, junction and detail is considered, maximising and expressing design. This creates an inherent atmosphere within a space, informed by the architecture.

Take this headline photo for example. This classic mid terrace Oxford City house was full of charm, but lacked space and a sociable kitchen. From the moment we arrived, there was an inherent long axial view through the house to the garden that when enhanced would reward our clients daily. The remodel and extension are uniquely bepoked for this house. Comparative to the neighbours, look at the scale of the opening and imagine the levels of flowing space, natural light, connection to the garden and the seasons this designed extension provides our client and their family. We enjoy bringing the outside in and pushing the boundaries for our clients.

This approach enables us to consider the everyday function of a home and utilise design to make the experiences within it, rewarding. There is a beauty amongst even the simplest of solutions when designed with conscious purpose.
