What type of buildings do you design?

We enjoy working on a range of buildings, including one-off homes, renovations, extensions for both traditional and contemporary style homes. We also work on a selection of commercial and education buildings.

What services do you provide?

We provide a full architectural service, from helping you to prepare a brief through to oversight of your project on site. We also design interiors and landscapes and we provide masterplanning services. For full details please visit our services page.

What kind of projects do you take on?

We offer architectural design solutions for residential and commercial projects, generally ranging from £250k - £5m. Fundamentally the projects we take on reflect our desire to produce imaginative, beautiful, impeccable architecture with a purposeful, refined and considered aesthetic. With our studios in Oxfordshire and London, our projects tend to be located across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, the Cotswolds, Northampton and London. We are happy to work across the UK and beyond, if the project is the right fit for us.

Do you offer a project management service?

The Building Contractor is responsible for day-to-day project management. We provide a contract administration services for our clients on a regular basis. Alongside drawing up the contract between you and your builder, we will issue instructions, arrange compliance and approvals, manage your budget and provide valuable oversight once your project is underway. Can you help us to get planning permission?

Yes. We have lots of experience of gaining planning permission, including on listed buildings and landscapes up to and including Grade II*. We work closely with planning consultants to supplement our planning skills and resources when necessary. Please visit our process page for more details about how we work as a design studio.

What's my role in the design process?

As the client, you are at the heart of the project. We collaborate with you throughout the design process and project journey. Our role is to challenge, inspire and delight, while ensuring you remain closely involved at every stage. We listen carefully to your needs, ambitions and ideas, drawing them into the design as it develops, creating architecture that inspires and endures.

Can my project be environmentally sustainable?

Our commitment, as responsible architects, is to do as much as we can to minimise the environmental impact of our activities. We have a particular focus on the fabric of a building, the use and reuse of natural materials and passive solutions such as orientation and natural ventilation.

How much do you charge?

Our fees are usually based on a percentage of the Construction Value. Ranging from 6- 14%, depending on the complexity of the project and our anticipated level of involvement. We are a VAT registered company.

How long will a project take?

Timescales are project specific. But the majority of our projects take 18- 24 months, from concept to completion.

Do I need an architect?

If you care about design quality, then invest in your architect and their fees. The built product will reward you daily, as we create architecture that inspires and endures.

Our West Court project has been shortlisted in the Build It Awards 2026, the industry leading accolade for self build and renovation projects across the UK. The yearly awards celebrate all aspects of self builds and renovation home projects, recognising innovation and excellence in design.

West court is shortlisted in the ‘Best Architect for an Extension Project’ category. The project has transformed our clients Arts & Crafts home, unlocking the potential of the existing home through a considered reconfiguration, complemented by a modest extension.

Our approach was deliberately restrained, allowing the original character of West Court to remain central to the design while introducing a more cohesive and contemporary way of living. Rather than pursuing a wholesale enlargement, the project demonstrates how thoughtful architectural intervention can significantly improve an existing home while respecting its inherent character. Our design has improved the flow and functionality of the home, strengthening its connection to the garden and provided spaces that better support modern family life.
