Our Oxford architects begin on new luxury farmhouse and ancillary buildings
2 Mar '19
Situated in an idyllic Cotswold village stood a beautiful stone farmhouse, which had been home to our client since she was a little girl. Sadly, tragedy struck in 2017 when a large proportion of the original building burnt down in a devastating fire. Our client approached our Oxford architects in the hope that we could rebuild the farmhouse within the footprint of the original home.
Our architects were aware that the project had to be approached sympathetically to retain the original features, and in doing so they ensured all the remaining windows were surveyed to rebuild them to match the originals. Special attention to detail has been made to the principle west elevation and main entrance, so the finished project will be identical from this angle. However, while the property will largely look the same from the outset, internally, alterations have been made to adapt the layout for modern family living.
Entering through the main entrance, guests will find themselves situated in the entrance hall and stairwell. Opposite, double doors lead to a substantial boot room and utility, and from there the ‘snug’ which is to be used as a contemporary home cinema room. To the left of the main entrance is a formal drawing room. To the right, the heart of the family home can be found in the form of an open plan living/dining/kitchen space, with walk-in pantry. This generous room leads to the only new extension, not on the original footprint of the property, the beautifully architecturally designed orangery. Upstairs there are five bedrooms, two of them en-suite, a family bathroom, walk-in dressing room, walk-in linen cupboard and, what all households need, a craft room!
While the build is still in the very early stages, progress is already steaming ahead. The remainder of the original home has been demolished to make way for the new foundations, which have now been laid. We look forward to updating you on the progress of this project over the coming months, with completion taking place within twelve to fourteen months.
