Pool House and Gym extension on Grade II Listed House
Inside Pool House

As the pool house and gym completes on site, our Cotswold architects revisit this impressive Grade II listed extension and refurbishment.

In the heart of the Northamptonshire countryside, our clients’ impressive Grade II listed Georgian country house appeared picture perfect; a sweeping driveway leading to a substantial family home. However, internally, the dynamics of the layout simply did not work for modern family life. The kitchen was small and tucked away towards the back of the house. The owners had taken to entering the property through the rear door, leaving the front door redundant, and the living space lacked a central social area. Alongside this, our clients hoped to create an extension, incorporating a home gym and indoor swimming pool, in turn creating the luxury home they had always dreamed of.

The refurbishment was the first project to be completed. The front door now reinstated; guests are greeted with a welcoming entrance leading to three areas of the home - staircase and reception rooms, kitchen and pool extension and the west wing, now housing the utility and boot room. The kitchen, now removed from the rear of the west wing is very much the heart of the home, creating the perfect central social space the property so desperately needed. Upstairs, the layout remains largely the same, with alterations to the master bedroom being the most obvious change. The kitchen and master bedrooms now make use of the best lighting and views in the property. The interior decorating and specialist lighting has really finished off the refurbishment, with soft furnishings and handpicked artwork to complete the luxurious ambiance.

The build on the pool house and gym concluded over the summer and our Cotswold architects are thrilled with the final results, as are our clients! The new extension blends seamlessly with the existing, using similar materials throughout the build, and extensive glazing to entice the outdoors in. Above the pool features a stunning rooflight providing natural light and a sheer sensation of space, enabling users to enjoy the outdoors, yet still use the pool no matter the weather. The extension leading to the kitchen creates the ease of travelling from home to pool without leaving the house. Surrounding the pool house is a beautiful, modern terrace, and on a summer’s day, the sliding doors open the pool house right up, creating the perfect environment for a party.

We have enjoyed watching the progress of this build over the last few months and are so excited to see it complete. It will definitely go down as one of our favourite projects.
