Oxfordshire architects near completion on design and overhaul in Wiltshire
1 Apr '19
Last June our Oxfordshire architects began work on an architecturally designed overhaul of a two-bedroom bungalow in rural Wiltshire. The property stands in the idyllic Marlborough Downs, overlooking fields and rolling hills, but the existing building was not making the most of the spectacular landscape. The clients had approached our team with the idea of expanding the property to not only accommodate their growing family, but to incorporate the stunning views.
Our architects came back with a design which was both sympathetic to the current streetscape, and modern in profile. From the front, the house was to retain much of its original modesty, and the side elevation was to only hint at the contemporary additions. From the rear, the proposed was to be striking with a first-floor extension and corner glazing, giving the property the space the clients wanted without being overbearing.
We are thrilled to say that completion of this design and overhaul is in sight! The property is now watertight, with the roof and windows fitted. Due to the addition of the double height window to the side of the property and the glazed corner to the rear, the home is light and airy. When the sliding doors to the corner glazing are open it really brings the outdoors in. Externally the cladding has now been fitted, giving the design a modern, contemporary edge. The cladding is cedar which, over time, will wear down naturally through weathering, ending up with beautiful silver tones.
Once finished the home will go from a cosy two-bedroom bungalow to a substantial four-bedroom family home. The downstairs space will incorporate one of the four bedrooms alongside a study, playroom, bathroom, wet room, formal living room, family room and kitchen diner. Upstairs will house the remaining three bedrooms, including the master suite with walk in wardrobe and ensuite bathroom.
Internally, plastering has begun and next week the clients look forward to the instalment of the bathrooms. We expect completion of this architecturally designed home sometime between late May and early June, and we shall, of course, share photos of the finished design then.
